Consider your preferences and situation before making a choice. As you consider if Professional Management or Online Advice is right for you, ask yourself questions like:
- When was the last time you made an investment change in your AAAP account?
- Do you enjoy monitoring and managing your 401(k) investments?
Example: Alice, who’s a do-it-herself investor
Alice keeps up with investing websites and rebalances her AAAP account quarterly. She has set a retirement goal and feels confident about meeting it. Alice decides to use Online Advice to see how she’s tracking to her goal.
Example: Benjamin, who prefers partnering with experts Benjamin made fund choices when he first joined the AAAP. Because he’s not confident about what to do now, he tends to put off making changes. Benjamin takes action to add Professional Management at the deadline, on January 18, 2013, and he has until April 18, 2013, to cancel and avoid the program fee.
Example: Carla, who wants to see for herself Carla feels fairly confident about investing. But she’s so busy with work and family, it would be a relief to have someone to watch over her AAAP account. Carla decides to experience Professional Management right away, in December 2012, and then she has until April 18, 2013 (about four months) to decide if she wants to keep it, or cancel and avoid the program fee. She can still cancel anytime after April 18, and in that case the program fee applies for the full time she received Professional Management.
