FINANCIAL ENGINES INTRODUCES IRA ROLLOVER, NEW MONEY AND REBALANCE QUICKSOLVE SOLUTIONS

New Advice Modules Support Event-Driven Advisory Process For Financial Institutions and Advisors

PALO ALTO, Calif., September 3, 2002 – Financial Engines today announced that it has enhanced its advice technology platform to include QuickSolve Solutions, advice modules that enable advisors using the Financial Engines Professional Advisor to easily provide specific investment recommendations that address clients' most pressing financial needs. The first three solutions are an IRA Rollover QuickSolve to help clients with their IRA rollover decision, a New Money QuickSolve to help clients invest a lump sum of new money and a Rebalance QuickSolve to help advisors rebalance their clients' portfolios tax-efficiently.

Financial Engines enables financial institutions to deliver advice to clients online with its Direct Access service, over the phone with its Call Center service and face-to-face with its Professional Advisor service. All three delivery channels are designed to address the advice needs of individual investors that are most commonly driven by specific life events.

"QuickSolve Solutions help financial institutions build client relationships and win assets one life event at a time," says Jeff Maggioncalda, president and CEO of Financial Engines. "Unlike traditional financial planning, which requires hours of time to solve no particular problem, the event driven approach fits with the way investors approach their financial lives in reality."

QuickSolve Solutions
QuickSolve Solutions enable financial institutions and advisors to provide targeted answers to specific client investment needs. In three simple steps, professionals can quickly identify a client need, create a personalized investment proposal, and implement the proposal with a click. Because QuickSolve Solutions are modular, financial institutions can add them as their business needs grow.

IRA Rollover QuickSolve - With the IRA Rollover QuickSolve, a financial professional first enters either the amount of money or the specific investment holdings to be rolled over. The QuickSolve then creates a personalized proposal recommending specific investment products from those offered by the institution, along with a set of clear speaking points that support the recommendations. The proposal can be further customized to reflect the preferences of the financial professional or the client. Finally, the QuickSolve facilitates the transaction electronically by pre-filling the appropriate rollover forms.

New Money QuickSolve - Using the New Money QuickSolve, advisors simply enter the amount of cash, a CD or fixed annuity to be invested. A personalized proposal is then generated with specific recommendations using the universe of products offered by the institution. Advisors can then further customize the final proposal with risk profiles and product preferences, motivating the client into action.

Rebalance QuickSolve - The Rebalance QuickSolve enables an advisor to easily identify which client portfolios need to be rebalanced and to reallocate holdings tax-efficiently in minutes instead of hours. The personalized proposal includes recommendations for rebalancing the portfolio to the client's risk profile. The proactive alerts enable advisors to provide ongoing portfolio monitoring to help reassure and retain clients even in the toughest markets. Like every QuickSolve Solution, the recommendations always use the advisor's preferred universe of products.

Advisors can use QuickSolve Solutions to address the real-world investment needs of their clients, earning the trust to build a comprehensive financial plan one life event at a time.
