FINANCIAL ENGINES® SERVES UP 401(K) INVESTMENT ADVICE TO 35,000 UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION EMPLOYEES

Independence of the Advice Provider a Key Decision Factor

PALO ALTO, Calif., February 19, 2002 – Financial Engines, Inc. today announced that United Technologies Corporation (UTC) has selected the Financial Engines Investment Advisor® service to provide online 401(k) investment education and advice to 35,000 Savings Plan participants. A key factor in UTC's decision to provide advice from Financial Engines was the independence of the advice provider.

UTC convened an internal team to evaluate advice providers and select the advisory service to be offered to employees. After careful consideration, UTC selected Financial Engines because of the underlying investment methodology, ease-of-use of the service, highly personalized advice capabilities and the overall professionalism of the organization. UTC tied the release of the Financial Engines advisory service with the announcement of three new investment options available through its defined contribution plan, which is administered by Fidelity Investments.

"UTC is a progressive company, offering its employees the latest benefits to enhance their retirement program," said Brian Samuels, executive vice president of client services. "Financial Engines will help UTC employees use an outcomes-based approach to investing their 401(k) savings to reach their retirement goals."
