FINANCIAL ENGINES® SELECTED BY AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION TO PROVIDE INVESTMENT ADVICE TO ITS ALASKA AIRLINES PILOT GROUP MEMBERS
PALO ALTO, Calif., January 18, 2000 – Financial Engines, Inc. today announced that the Alaska Airlines pilot group of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) has selected the Financial Engines Investment AdvisorSM service to provide investment advice to its more than 1,200 members. ALPA is the world's largest and oldest pilots union representing more than 55,000 airline pilots at 51 airlines in the U.S. and Canada.
The ALPA Alaska Airlines pilot members join Merck, 3Com and Hallmark as another leading organization to recognize the internal demand from employees and members for easy-to-use, institutional quality investment advice.*
"We are pleased to provide an online financial planning service to our members that allows them to make well-informed decisions to improve their chances of reaching their retirement goals," said Captain Herb Grisham, chairman of the Alaska Master Executive Council Retirement and Insurance Committee and an Alaska Airlines pilot. "After a thorough comparison of online investment advisory services, we chose Financial Engines because it provided a realistic evaluation of an entire portfolio."
"Given that ALPA national's staff 401(k) plan was one of the earliest adopters of the online service, it has been gratifying to see the further employment of the service by the Alaska pilot group," said Jeff Maggioncalda, president and CEO of Financial Engines. "By providing access to the Financial Engines Investment Advisor service, ALPA is giving its Alaska Airlines pilot members services they need to take control of their financial futures."
The ALPA Alaska Airlines pilot members will access the Financial Engines Investment Advisor service through the Financial Engines Web site (www.financialengines.com), where members can enter personal information about themselves, including desired retirement age, mutual funds and stocks held in non-401(k) accounts such as IRAs and brokerage accounts. The Advisor service creates a detailed, personal action plan that employees can use to implement decisions about their finances.
