HEWITT ASSOCIATES TO INTEGRATE FINANCIAL ENGINES' INVESTMENT ADVISORY SERVICES INTO ITS DEFINED CONTRIBUTION SERVICE OFFERINGS

PALO ALTO, California, and LINCOLNSHIRE Illinois, October 26, 1998 – Hewitt Associates LLC, a global management consulting firm, and Financial Engines, Inc., a pioneering provider of online investment advice, today announced an agreement to jointly offer an integrated service featuring Financial Engines' advisory service to Hewitt's corporate defined contribution clients representing over 4.5 million plan participants. In addition, Hewitt plans to work with Financial Engines on providing investment advice beyond the 401(k) environment to individuals in the Hewitt Portfolio^TM program. The integration will include the delivery of Internet-based investment advice using the Financial Engines Investment Advisor^TM advice platform and seamless connections to Hewitt's proprietary Total Benefits Administration (TM) system.

After surveying the 401(k)-advice field, Hewitt decided to work together with Financial Engines to offer an integrated 401(k)-advice solution for Hewitt's current and prospective defined contribution clients. Hewitt will offer Financial Engines' Internet-based investment advisory services as a natural extension to its defined contribution and financial service offerings.

In addition to direct access via the Internet, Hewitt telephone representatives will use Financial Engines' unique analytic platform to provide tailored information for defined contribution plan participants. Beyond the 401(k) environment, Hewitt will also make Financial Engines' investment advisory services available to individual investors via the Hewitt Portfolio^TM program.
