In a nutshell
We do a lot of stuff, but the short version is we’re an independent investment adviser hired by some of the biggest companies in the US to provide personalized advice for retirement.
We are a fiduciary. This is our pledge to you.
Financial Engines is a fiduciary. Here’s what it means for you:
We have a legal duty to put your best interest first.
We don’t profit from the products we recommend. Period.
We act in good faith, loyalty, and care.
We’ll tell you about any potential conflicts of interests (and we’d prefer to avoid them altogether).
How do we make money?
We receive a fee based on a percentage of your account (the fee varies depending on your employer and your account balance).
We never make commissions. In contrast, other financial advisors may receive commissions from specific products they’re selling.
Even if you don’t choose Financial Engines to manage your accounts, please ask your advisor if they are a fiduciary and how they make their money. The answer could surprise you.
